What the PDF Editor does

The PrintablesWorld PDF Editor is a free, private, no-sign-up editor for PDF files. Open a PDF — or drag one onto the window — and you get a full editing surface: annotate, add and edit text, draw, highlight, sign, redact, fill forms, insert tables and images, reorganise pages and download the result as a normal PDF. There is no watermark, no page cap and no account.

Everything happens on your device. The file is parsed, rendered and rebuilt in your browser; it is never sent to a server. That makes it suitable for contracts, invoices, medical forms, ID scans and anything else you would not want to upload to a stranger's website.

Getting started

1. Open a PDF. Click Open, or drop a file anywhere on the page. Password-protected PDFs prompt for the password.
2. Pick a tool from the left-hand rail. Hover any icon to see what it does.
3. Work on the page. Click or drag on the page itself; the bar across the top changes to show the options for whatever you are doing or have selected.
4. Manage pages in the Pages panel, or open the grid organiser from the top bar.
5. Download. Press Download PDF and your edits are baked into a fresh file.

The toolbox

• Select / Move — click an object to select it, drag to move, corner handle to resize, and drag across empty space to rubber-band several at once. Drop a selection onto a different page to move it there.
• Add text — click anywhere to place a text box; choose from the three built-in PDF fonts or sixteen open-licensed web fonts (sans, serif, mono and handwriting), which are subset and embedded in the download.
• Edit existing text — click a line of the PDF's own text and replace it. The patch behind it samples the real page background, and the replacement font, weight, slant, size and ink colour are inferred from the original.
• Markup — underline, strikethrough or squiggly under any run of text.
• Callout — drag from the thing you want to point at to where the note should sit; you get an arrow plus a text box in one gesture.
• Highlight, pen, rectangle, ellipse, line, arrow — the usual annotation set, with colour and thickness controls.
• Image — click to place a picture, or drop image files straight onto a page.
• Signature — draw, type or upload; the uploader can make a white background transparent.
• Sticky note — pin a comment to the page; all notes are listed in the comments panel.
• White-out — cover a mistake with a patch that matches the surrounding page colour rather than plain white.
• Redact — permanently destroy content: redacted pages are rasterised with the boxes burned in on download.
• Stamp — APPROVED, DRAFT, CONFIDENTIAL, REJECTED, COMPLETED, FINAL, VOID, SIGN HERE or PAID, in your choice of colour.
• Table — drop in a grid of up to 12 × 8 cells and type into it.
• Form field — draw real interactive AcroForm text fields, checkboxes and dropdowns that stay fillable in the exported PDF.
• Measure — drag between two points for a reading in points, millimetres and inches.
• Move part of the page — draw a box around a logo, QR code, icon or chart already printed on the page and it becomes a normal movable, resizable object. Clicking an embedded image does the same thing.
• Crop — drag the area to keep, on this page or on all of them.
• Hyperlink — drag a box and give it a URL; it exports as a real clickable link annotation.
• Fill form fields — if the PDF already has a form, fill it in and the values are flattened into the download.

Pages

The Pages panel shows a live thumbnail of every page. Drag them to reorder, or use the per-page buttons to rotate, duplicate, move or delete. The grid button in the top bar opens a full-screen organiser for the same job with more room. You can add a blank page — plain, ruled, 5 mm grid, dot grid or letterhead — and merge another PDF in at any position you choose.

Document tools

• OCR — recognise text in scans, in 25 languages, entirely in the browser. Recognised words become editable and searchable, and an invisible text layer goes into the download.
• Search & replace — across the whole document, including OCR'd text.
• Compress — re-render at 150, 120, 96 or 72 dpi and see exactly how much smaller the file got.
• Password protect — encrypt the downloaded PDF so it needs a password to open.
• Split / extract — pull out a page range, or split the document every N pages into a ZIP.
• Compare — put another PDF side by side with yours and have the differing regions highlighted page by page.
• Print — send the edited document straight to your printer.
• Watermark, page numbers and Bates numbering — applied across every page, previewed on screen before you download.
• Convert — export pages as PNGs in a ZIP, extract the text as .txt, export to Word (.docx), or build a brand-new PDF from a set of images.

Comfort and safety nets

Undo and redo cover forty steps. Find (Ctrl/Cmd + F) highlights every match on every page and steps through them. A dark reading mode inverts the page on screen without touching the download. Pinch-zoom works on touch screens, and the toolbar, drawing and dragging are all built on pointer events, so a stylus or finger behaves the same as a mouse. Your session is saved locally as you work and offered back to you for three days, so a closed tab or a browser crash does not cost you the edit.

Privacy

Your PDF is never uploaded. It is opened, edited and rebuilt entirely on your own computer, and the finished file is saved straight back to your downloads folder. The autosave that lets you pick up where you left off is kept on your device too, and you can discard it from the restore prompt at any time.

Almost nothing travels over the network. The only exceptions are optional extras that carry no part of your document: if you run OCR, that language's dictionary is fetched the first time you use it, and if you pick one of the decorative fonts for a text box, that font file is fetched so it can be embedded in your PDF. Your pages, your text and your signature never leave the machine you are working on.
