Start with the operation, not the grade

Grade labels travel badly, a Year 4 class in the UK and a US fourth grade rarely sit at the same point in the curriculum, and within any one room the spread is usually two or three years wide. It is more reliable to pick by the operation a learner is actually stuck on. If they are still counting on fingers for single-digit sums, start at number bonds and ten frames rather than a timed drill. If the arithmetic is solid but word problems cause panic, the problem is comprehension, not calculation, and the word-problem sheets are the right tool.

Every generator here produces a blank sheet and a matching answer key from the same page of settings, so you can mark a set without working the questions yourself. Paper size is A4 or US Letter throughout, and nothing needs an account.

A rough order through the topics

Counting and place value come first, counting objects, ten frames, number lines, ordering numbers. Addition and subtraction follow, moving from single digit through to column methods with regrouping. Multiplication usually starts as skip counting, becomes the times tables, and only then becomes long multiplication; the multiplication chart and blank grids are worth printing once and keeping on the wall.

Fractions are where most learners slow down, so the set is deliberately deep: fraction strips and equivalent fractions for the concept, then adding and subtracting, then multiplying and dividing, then the fraction–decimal–percent conversions that tie the three notations together. Beyond that the sheets move into secondary work, order of operations, negative numbers, exponents, algebra, simultaneous equations, Pythagoras and quadratics.

The data and measurement sheets sit slightly apart from that ladder. Bar charts, pictographs, pie charts, tally charts and mean/median/mode are worth mixing in early, because they give a reason to do arithmetic rather than more arithmetic for its own sake.

How much practice actually helps

One page a day, finished and marked, beats five pages started and abandoned. Most of these generators let you set the number of questions, so it is worth cutting a sheet down until it can be completed in the time you actually have. A timed drill is a diagnostic, not a daily habit, use it to find the facts that are slow, then go back to untimed practice on just those facts.
