Create Printable Measurement Conversion Worksheets
Generate free printable measurement conversion worksheets that span three families of units: metric (millimetres, centimetres, metres, kilometres, grams, kilograms, millilitres, litres), imperial or US customary (inches, feet, yards, ounces, pounds, pints, gallons) and time (seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks).
Each fill-in-the-blank problem prints as a clean equation such as 3 ft = ______ in. An optional conversion reference card sits at the top of the page so learners can look up the factor while they practise, and an answer key prints on a second page for fast marking.
The worksheet suits UK Year 3–Year 6 and US Grades 3–6, where converting between units of length, mass, capacity and time features across the maths curriculum.
Why practise unit conversion?
Converting units is a multiply-or-divide skill, but learners often forget which direction does which — and imperial conversions add the extra challenge of non-decimal factors like 12, 16 and 60. Short, regular printable practice builds reliable recall. Use these sheets for:
- metric length, mass and capacity conversion
- imperial / US customary conversion (in, ft, yd, oz, lb, pt, gal)
- time conversion between seconds, minutes, hours, days and weeks
- Year 6 SATs arithmetic and reasoning revision
- Grade 5–6 Common Core measurement practice
- science and cooking cross-curriculum support
What you can customise
- Unit group: Metric, Imperial, Time, or Mixed
- Direction: To smaller (large to small), To larger (small to large), or Mixed
- Problem count from 4 to 40
- Conversion reference card on or off
- Name & Date header on or off
- Answer key on or off
- Paper size: A4 or US Letter
Notes and limitations
- The generator picks clean multiples so every converted value comes out as a whole number.
- Metric factors are the standard ones: 10 mm = 1 cm, 100 cm = 1 m, 1000 m = 1 km, 1000 g = 1 kg, 1000 ml = 1 l.
- Imperial factors used: 12 in = 1 ft, 3 ft = 1 yd, 16 oz = 1 lb, 8 pt = 1 gal.
- Time factors used: 60 sec = 1 min, 60 min = 1 hr, 24 hr = 1 day, 7 days = 1 week.
- Random mode means two exports at the same settings will differ.
Who these worksheets are for
Parents
Support homework on conversion with fresh worksheets — regenerate as many times as you need, since every page is different.
Teachers
Differentiate by running Metric-only sheets for one group and Mixed for another, all printed in the same session.
Homeschool families
Cover metric, imperial and time conversion from one tool instead of three separate workbooks.
Tutors
Use Mixed group + Mixed direction to diagnose whether a learner struggles with the unit, the factor, or the direction.
Worksheet style options
Metric
Conversions across mm, cm, m, km, g, kg, ml and l using decimal factors of 10, 100 and 1000.
Imperial
Conversions across inches, feet, yards, ounces, pounds, pints and gallons using non-decimal factors of 12, 3, 16 and 8.
Time
Conversions across seconds, minutes, hours, days and weeks using factors of 60, 24 and 7.
Mixed
A balanced blend of metric, imperial and time, ideal for end-of-topic revision.
How to use the tool
- Choose a unit group.
- Choose a direction.
- Pick the problem count.
- Keep the reference card on for support, or turn it off for a test.
- Keep the answer key on for marking.
- Choose A4 or US Letter.
- Preview, then download the PDF.
Worked example
With group Imperial and direction To smaller, a question might read 3 ft = ______ in. Multiplying by 12 gives 36 in. With group Time and direction To larger, a question might read 180 sec = ______ min; dividing by 60 gives 3 min. The answer key prints the full solution for every item.
Methodology
For To smaller, the engine samples a small whole number in the larger unit, then multiplies by the conversion factor to get the answer in the smaller unit. For To larger, it samples a clean multiple of the factor in the smaller unit so the answer in the larger unit stays whole. Mixed direction samples evenly from both. Because starting values are always clean multiples, the worksheet never produces awkward decimals.
Helpful preset ideas

- Mixed group + Mixed direction — Year 6 SATs revision
Best ways to practise measurement conversion
- Memorise the master factors for each family: 10/100/1000 for metric, 12/3/16/8 for imperial, 60/24/7 for time.
- Say aloud whether the answer should be a bigger or smaller number — catches direction errors before pencil hits paper.
- Keep the reference card visible until recall is automatic, then switch it off for a quick test.
- Link to real life: read a recipe in metric and imperial, time everyday tasks, measure objects with a ruler.
- Estimate first, then calculate, as a sanity check.
A few short conversion drills each week keep the skill fluent, and rotating between metric, imperial and time prevents learners from getting stuck on one family.
Designed for A4 and US Letter Printing
Conversion worksheets print cleanly on both A4 and US Letter. Print at 100% scale so the two-column layout and reference card stay balanced on the page.

FAQs
Quick answers
Which units are covered?
Metric (mm, cm, m, km, g, kg, ml, l), imperial / US customary (in, ft, yd, oz, lb, pt, gal) and time (sec, min, hr, day, week). The Mixed group picks problems from all three families.
What is the conversion reference card?
An optional box at the top of the worksheet listing the conversion factors for the chosen unit group, so learners can look up the factor while they practise. Turn it off to make the sheet a closed-book test.
Are the answers always whole numbers?
Yes. The generator picks clean multiples so every converted value comes out as a whole number, keeping the worksheet tidy and easy to mark.
Do I get an answer key?
Yes. Include answer key is on by default and appends a matching answers page.
