What you can do with Money Maths Worksheets

This generator creates three families of money problems. Coin and note addition asks learners to add two amounts (for example, £2.35 + £1.67). Making change presents a purchase scenario: you pay with a note and calculate the difference. Word problems embed these calculations in short narratives—Alex buys a sandwich for $3.45 and a juice for $1.80; how much does he spend in total?

You control the currency symbol (pound, dollar, or euro), the maximum value that appears in any problem, and whether to generate a single problem type or mix all three on one sheet. The engine uses a seeded random-number generator so every PDF is unique but reproducible from the same settings.

What you can customise

  • Currency: GBP (£), USD ($), or EUR (€)
  • Problem type: coin addition only, making change only, word problems only, or a mixed set
  • Maximum amount: cap the largest value that appears (for example, 10.00 keeps totals under ten units)
  • Problem count: how many questions to print on the sheet
  • Answer key: include or omit a second page showing all solutions
  • Custom title: personalise the worksheet header
  • Name and date line: toggle a space for the learner to write their name

How to use the tool

  1. Select your currency from the drop-down (GBP, USD, or EUR).
  2. Choose a problem mode: coins-add, make-change, word-problems, or mixed.
  3. Set the maximum amount to control difficulty—lower values suit younger learners.
  4. Pick the number of problems (typically 6–12 fits well on one page).
  5. Tick the answer-key box if you want solutions printed on a second page.
  6. Add a custom title or leave the default.
  7. Click Generate and download your branded PDF, ready to print on A4 or US Letter paper.

Worked classroom example

A Year 3 teacher preparing a money lesson selects GBP, sets the maximum amount to £5.00, and chooses mixed mode with ten problems. The generator produces four coin-addition questions (£1.25 + £2.30 = ?), three making-change scenarios (you pay £5.00 for an item costing £3.45), and three word problems (Maya buys a book for £2.80 and a pencil case for £1.50; how much does she spend?). Because the answer key is enabled, page two lists all ten solutions in the same order. The teacher prints fifteen copies on the school's A4 stock, writes the lesson date at the top, and distributes them during the numeracy block.

Who Money Maths Worksheets are for

Teachers

Generate differentiated sets for early-years through primary classes. Print multiple versions by changing the seed (regenerate with the same settings) so neighbours cannot copy. Use the answer key to mark work quickly or let learners self-check in pairs.

Parents and homeschoolers

Practise real-world arithmetic at the kitchen table. Choose the currency your child encounters every day, start with small maximum amounts, and increase difficulty as confidence grows. Word problems build comprehension alongside calculation.

Tutors

Tailor worksheets to each student's ability. A child struggling with pence can work through coin-addition problems capped at £1.00, while a more confident learner tackles mixed problems up to £20.00 with multi-step word scenarios.

Notes and limitations

  • The generator does not create multi-step budgeting tasks or percentage discounts; problems focus on addition and subtraction of money amounts.
  • Word problems use a fixed pool of names and items; if you generate many sheets you will see repeats, though the amounts and combinations vary.
  • Maximum amount is a ceiling, not a target; individual problems will often be smaller to keep arithmetic realistic.
  • The tool does not teach coin recognition (pictures of coins); it presents amounts in decimal notation.

Designed for A4 and US Letter printing

Every PDF fits both A4 (210 × 297 mm) and US Letter (8.5 × 11 in) without clipping. Margins are generous enough that school or home printers will not cut off question text, and the layout remains readable whether you print in portrait or use the default orientation. No special paper or settings required—standard weight copy paper works perfectly.

FAQs

Quick answers

Can I choose which currency symbol appears on the worksheet?

Yes. The currency drop-down lets you pick GBP (£), USD ($), or EUR (€). All amounts on the worksheet will use your selected symbol and standard decimal notation.

What is the difference between the four problem modes?

Coins-add generates simple addition of two amounts. Make-change presents a payment scenario where the learner calculates the difference. Word-problems wrap calculations in short narratives (for example, a character buying two items). Mixed mode combines all three types on one sheet.

How does the maximum amount setting work?

Maximum amount caps the largest value that can appear in any single problem. For example, setting 5.00 ensures no total exceeds five pounds, dollars, or euros. Individual problems will often be smaller to keep the arithmetic realistic for younger learners.

Will I get an answer key?

If you tick the Include Answer Key box, the PDF will have a second page listing all solutions in the same order as the questions. This makes marking faster and lets learners check their own work.

Can I print the same worksheet again later?

Each time you click Generate with the same settings, the seeded random-number generator produces a different set of problems. If you need identical copies, download the PDF once and print multiple times from that file.

How many problems fit on one page?

Six to twelve problems typically fit comfortably in portrait orientation on A4 or US Letter. If you choose a higher count, the font size may shrink slightly, or the layout may extend to a second question page before the answer key.

Are the word problems suitable for early readers?

Word problems use simple sentence structures and a small vocabulary (common names like Alex, Maya, and Leo; everyday items like sandwich, book, and pencil case). They are designed for Key Stage 1 and Grade 1–3 literacy levels, but you can read them aloud to pre-readers.
