What you can do with Money Maths Worksheets

This generator creates three families of money problems. Coin and note addition asks learners to add two amounts (for example, £2.35 + £1.67). Making change presents a purchase scenario: you pay with a note and calculate the difference. Word problems embed these calculations in short narratives. Alex buys a sandwich for $3.45 and a juice for $1.80; how much does he spend in total?

You control the currency symbol (pound, dollar, or euro), the maximum value that appears in any problem, and whether to generate a single problem type or mix all three on one sheet. The engine uses a seeded random-number generator so every PDF is unique but reproducible from the same settings.

What you can customise

• Currency: GBP (£), USD ($), or EUR (€)
• Problem type: coin addition only, making change only, word problems only, or a mixed set
• Maximum amount: cap the largest value that appears (for example, 10.00 keeps totals under ten units)
• Problem count: how many questions to print on the sheet

How to use the tool

1. Select your currency from the drop-down (GBP, USD, or EUR).

3. Set the maximum amount to control difficulty. Lower values suit younger learners.
4. Pick the number of problems (typically 6–12 fits well on one page).
5. Tick the answer-key box if you want solutions printed on a second page.

Worked classroom example

A Year 3 teacher preparing a money lesson selects GBP, sets the maximum amount to £5.00, and chooses mixed mode with ten problems. The generator produces four coin-addition questions (£1.25 + £2.30 = ?), three making-change scenarios (you pay £5.00 for an item costing £3.45), and three word problems (Maya buys a book for £2.80 and a pencil case for £1.50; how much does she spend?). Because the answer key is enabled, page two lists all ten solutions in the same order. The teacher prints fifteen copies on the school's A4 stock, writes the lesson date at the top, and distributes them during the numeracy block.

Notes and limitations

• The generator does not create multi-step budgeting tasks or percentage discounts; problems focus on addition and subtraction of money amounts.
• Word problems use a fixed pool of names and items; if you generate many sheets you will see repeats, though the amounts and combinations vary.
• Maximum amount is a ceiling, not a target; individual problems will often be smaller to keep arithmetic realistic.
• The tool does not teach coin recognition (pictures of coins); it presents amounts in decimal notation.
