One printable page for every student's marks
The grade book is a one-page printable for teachers, tutors and home educators who want to record marks on paper. Student names run down the left, assignment columns run across the top (A1, A2, A3 and so on), and a running-total column on the right is left blank for you to add the row up at the end of a term or unit.
Pick the number of students and the number of assignment columns, print at the start of term, clip it into a register, and fill in a mark each time work is handed back.
Prints cleanly in A4 or US Letter.
Why use a printable grade book?
A spreadsheet is fine at a desk, but a printed grade book sits open on the table during marking and never needs a login. Use it for:
- recording test and homework marks as work comes back
- spotting at a glance which students have missing assignments
- a quick term overview to share at a parents' evening
- a backup record that does not depend on the school system being up
- a tidy paper trail for moderation and reporting
- tutors tracking several one-to-one students on one sheet
What you can customise
- Page title: default "Class Grade Book" or rename for a subject or set
- Students: 10 to 28 rows — one numbered slot per student
- Assignments: 4 to 10 columns, labelled A1 to A10
- Teacher and term lines: an optional header line for who and when
- Running total: a wider right-hand column for the row sum or grade
- Paper size: A4 or US Letter PDF
Notes and limitations
- This is a printable worksheet, not a fillable PDF or spreadsheet — you hand-write names and marks, which keeps it universal and stores no pupil data anywhere.
- Assignment columns are labelled A1 to A10 generically; write the real assignment name above each column or keep a key alongside the sheet.
- The total column is blank — add the row up by hand or write a final grade.
- Print at 100% scale so the columns stay square and aligned.
Who the grade book is for
Classroom teachers
Keep a full set's marks on one page through a unit or half-term, then total each row for a report grade.
Private tutors
Track several students across weekly sessions without juggling separate files.
Home educators
Record marks for each subject area in a simple, no-login format you can file away.
Supply and cover staff
Pick up a class quickly with a printed grid that needs no access to the school's system.
How the columns work
Student column
Each row is numbered. Write the student's name once at the start of term and use the same row all the way across.
Assignment columns
Labelled A1 to A10. Record a mark, a percentage or a letter grade each time an assignment is returned.
Total column
The widest right-hand column is for a running total, an average or a final grade once the assignments are in.
How to use the tool

- Set the number of assignment columns (4 to 10).
- Choose A4 or US Letter.

- Record a mark in the matching cell as each assignment comes back.
Worked example
A Year 8 science teacher sets students to 26 and assignments to 6: three homeworks and three short tests over the half-term. Names go down the left, marks out of ten go into A1 to A6, and at the end of the half-term each row is totalled out of 60 in the right-hand column to give a quick attainment snapshot.

FAQs
Quick answers
How many students and assignments fit on one page?
Choose 10 to 28 student rows and 4 to 10 assignment columns. Fewer rows leave more height per student for clearer marks.
Can I label the assignment columns?
The columns print as A1 to A10. Write the real assignment name above each column, or keep a short key alongside the sheet.
Is the total worked out for me?
No. The right-hand column is left blank so you can add the row up by hand, work out an average, or write a final grade.
Does it store any pupil data?
No. It is a blank printable — you hand-write names and marks, so no student information is stored anywhere.
