A printable grid of colour-in squares for a no-spend streak or a save-as-you-go challenge.

What this tool does
Print a single-page challenge tracker built from a grid of numbered colour-in squares. Run it as a no-spend challenge — one square per day you avoid unplanned spending — or as a savings challenge where every square is a fixed amount you tuck away. Add your own rule and a reward at the top, pick how many squares you want (7 to 100), and in savings mode the sheet totals up what filling every square will save you.

A printable no-spend and savings challenge on a single page
The no-spend challenge tracker turns a money goal into a simple game: a grid of numbered squares you colour in one at a time. Run it as a no-spend challenge, where each square is a day you resist unplanned spending, or flip it to savings mode, where each square is a fixed amount you set aside. Either way the goal is the same — fill the whole grid.
Write your own rule and reward at the top, choose 7, 14, 30, 31, 52 or 100 squares, pick A4 or US Letter, and print. In savings mode the sheet works out the grand total you will have saved once every square is coloured in.
Why a colour-in challenge works better than an app
Money apps are easy to ignore. A sheet on the fridge is not. The act of physically colouring a square is a tiny reward that builds a visible streak you do not want to break. Use the challenge for:
- a 30-day no-spend reset after a heavy spending month
- a weekly no-spend day habit (one square a week, 52 squares a year)
- a fixed-amount savings challenge — save the same amount per square until the grid is full
- a 100-envelope style challenge condensed onto one printable page
- kids and teens learning to save towards a specific goal
- couples running the same challenge side by side on the fridge
Because it is paper, it works offline, needs no login, and survives a dead phone battery.
No-spend mode vs savings mode
No-spend mode
Each square is a day. Stick to your rule — essentials only, no takeaways, no impulse buys — and colour the day in. A 30-square grid is the classic month-long no-spend challenge; a 7-square grid is a quick one-week reset.
Savings mode
Each square is an amount you choose. Save it, colour the square, and watch the grid fill. The sheet prints the per-square amount inside every box and totals the full challenge below the grid, so you always know the target.
What you can customise
- Title: default "30-Day No-Spend Challenge" or rename for your own goal
- Challenge type: no-spend days or savings squares
- Square count: 7, 14, 30, 31, 52 or 100 squares, laid out in a tidy grid
- My rule: the line you write to keep yourself honest
- Reward: what you get when the grid is full
- Currency and amount per square (savings mode): GBP, USD or EUR with a per-square value
- Paper size: A4 or US Letter PDF
Notes and limitations
- This is a printable worksheet, not a fillable PDF. You colour squares with a pen or marker.
- One hundred squares is the comfortable maximum per page; the grid widens to keep every square legible.
- In savings mode the printed total assumes the same amount in every square — vary it by hand if you prefer a rising-amount challenge.
- Print at 100% scale so the grid keeps its proportions.
Who the challenge tracker is for
Budgeters
Anyone wanting a visible, low-effort way to cut spending or build a savings habit without another app.
Families
Stick the sheet on the fridge and run the challenge as a household — everyone sees the streak grow.
Students
A clear, finite goal — save a small amount per square towards a trip, a gadget, or a buffer.
Couples
Two sheets, one fridge, a bit of friendly competition to see whose grid fills first.
How to use the tool
- Enter a title or keep the default.
- Pick no-spend days or savings squares.
- Choose how many squares you want.
- In savings mode, set the currency and the amount per square.
- Write your rule and your reward.
- Select A4 or US Letter and preview the sheet.
- Download, print at 100% scale, and colour a square each time you succeed.
Worked example
A saver picks savings mode, GBP, 52 squares, and £10 per square. The sheet prints a grid of 52 boxes each marked £10, with a line below reading "Filling every square saves £520." Rule: "Move £10 to savings every payday." Reward: "Weekend away." Each payday they transfer the money and colour a square — by the end of the year the grid is full and the holiday fund is sorted.
Methodology
The engine snaps your chosen square count into a tidy grid — seven columns for short challenges, six for monthly counts, eight for 52, ten for 100 — and scales the square size to fill the page while staying legible. Each square is numbered; in savings mode the per-square amount is centred inside the box and the full-challenge total is summed below the grid using your chosen currency.
Helpful preset ideas
- Classic no-spend month: 30 squares, no-spend mode
- One-week reset: 7 squares, no-spend mode
- Weekly no-spend day: 52 squares, no-spend mode
- Save a fiver a day: 30 squares, savings mode, £5 each
- Big-goal saver: 100 squares, savings mode, £10 each
Designed for A4 and US Letter printing
The challenge tracker prints cleanly on A4 and US Letter. The grid resizes so even a 100-square sheet stays easy to colour, and amounts up to four digits fit inside each savings square.

FAQs
Quick answers
What is the difference between no-spend mode and savings mode?
In no-spend mode each square is a day you stick to your rule and colour in. In savings mode each square is a fixed amount you set aside, and the sheet totals up what filling every square will save you.
How many squares can I have?
Choose 7, 14, 30, 31, 52 or 100. The grid resizes automatically so every square stays large enough to colour in, even at 100.
Which currencies are supported in savings mode?
GBP (£), USD ($) and EUR (€). The chosen symbol is printed inside each savings square and in the grand-total line below the grid.
Is this a fillable PDF?
No — it prints as a clean worksheet you colour in by hand. That keeps it universal, works offline, and needs no PDF editor.
