A word fit puzzle, sometimes called a criss-cross or fill-in puzzle, gives the solver a crossword-style grid of empty cells and a list of words to slot in. Unlike a normal crossword there are no clues to read. Instead the challenge is purely spatial and logical. Every word has exactly one place it can go, and the words interlock on shared letters, so working out where one word fits often reveals where the next must sit. How a word fit puzzle works

The solver looks at the word bank and the shape of the grid. Each empty run of cells is an entry that holds exactly one word of matching length. Where two entries cross, they must share the same letter, which narrows the choices quickly. The usual strategy is to start with the longest words or with lengths that appear only once in the bank, place those, and then use the crossing letters to lock in the shorter words. There is only one valid arrangement, so careful logic always gets you there.
