Why the packing slip has no prices
A packing slip goes in the parcel. It is read at the delivery address by whoever opens the box, which is frequently not the person who paid — a gift, an office, a shared house. Printing the prices on it is how a birthday present arrives with its cost attached.
That is not a styling choice here, it is why the packing slip is a separate document rather than a receipt with a different heading. The money block is switched off, the tax line with it, and the columns change to Ordered, Packed and Back-ordered, which are the three things the person opening the box actually needs.
The receipt
Description, quantity, unit price and amount, with subtotal, an optional tax line you can label yourself, and a total in a heavier box. A signature line at the foot, because a receipt somebody has signed is a stronger record than one that was merely printed.
Currency and tax
Sterling, dollars or euros, and the tax row takes whatever you call it — VAT, sales tax, GST. Turn it off entirely if you are not registered.
