Create Free Printable Halloween Mazes for Spooky Classroom Activities
Generate free printable Halloween mazes where the maze itself is carved into a pumpkin, stalk and all, rather than a square grid. Every passage is held inside the silhouette, so the finished sheet reads as a pumpkin at a glance.
Print a fresh Halloween maze in A4 or US Letter PDF format for classroom party afternoons, trick-or-treat activity bundles, scout-hut craft sessions, or a calm quiet-time activity after a sugary evening. Every generation is random, so you can print one per child for an entire class and never see a duplicate.
The festive wrapper keeps the printable on-theme for the season, while the clean maze underneath still gives a real problem-solving workout. Add the optional solution page for quick marking, or leave it off to keep the suspense.
Why use this Halloween maze generator?
Halloween is a classroom and party favourite, and themed printables are always in demand. A short spooky maze fits neatly into the day without extra planning. Use it for:
- classroom party afternoons
- trick-or-treat activity bundles
- scout-hut and youth-group craft sessions
- Halloween party-pack printables
- school fete activity stalls
- quiet-time after a sugary evening
- home-school autumn-themed activities
- church harvest-event packs
Because every print is random, every child at the party gets their own unique puzzle.
The densest shape in the set
The pumpkin is the roundest and fullest of the five silhouettes: fourteen rows, 164 filled cells, five of them running the full sixteen-cell width, plus a short two-cell stem on top.
Density is the whole story here. At any given scale the pumpkin holds more maze than the tree (102 cells), the turkey (130) or the heart (140), which makes it the longest solve in the set without changing a single setting. At the default scale of 3 that is roughly 1,480 cells against the tree's 920 — a puzzle about sixty per cent bigger from the same button.
The body is also almost entirely convex, so like the egg it gives the solver no structural hints. The only feature is the stem, and the stem is a dead end unless the carver happens to route through it.
Scale settings for a Halloween party
The scale input runs 2 to 6 and squares the cell count. Because the pumpkin starts dense, the useful range sits lower than it does for the tree.
- Scale 2 — about 660 cells. Still a proper maze; good for five- and six-year-olds.
- Scale 3 — the default, and already a substantial puzzle for a seven-year-old.
- Scale 4 — roughly 2,600 cells. This is the party sheet: it will occupy a nine-year-old for a quarter of an hour.
- Scale 5–6 — over 4,000 cells. Print A4 minimum and expect adults to want a go.
At scale 5 and above the corridors are narrow enough that a thick pen bridges them. Say pencils, or print larger.
Making it look like a jack-o'-lantern
The mask is a plain pumpkin — no face is carved into it, because a face would cut the shape into disconnected regions and the carver requires one connected area to work with. That is a deliberate limitation, and it leaves an obvious activity open.
Print at scale 2 or 3 so the corridors are wide, have children solve the maze in pencil, and then let them draw the face on top in black pen: two triangles and a mouth over the solved maze. The corridors show through, which looks better than it sounds, and the maze becomes the pumpkin's texture.
For a display, print the same seed for the whole class so every pumpkin carries the same pattern and only the faces differ. It also removes the argument about who got the hard one.
Party sheets and trick-or-treat bags
A pumpkin maze is one of the few Halloween activities that needs no mess, no costume and no supervision, which is why it ends up on party tables and in party bags.
For a bag, print at scale 3 on a single sheet and fold it in quarters — it survives being carried around better than anything with pieces. For a table, print a mix of scale 2 and scale 4 so a five-year-old and a ten-year-old can both sit down at it.
Print in orange if you have the ink and the patience; greyscale plus an orange pencil gets you to the same place for a twentieth of the cartridge, and children would rather colour it themselves anyway.
