Turn a word count into a page count
How many pages is 5,000 words? It depends on the font size and line spacing. This estimator combines your word count with those two settings to predict the printed page count, so you can plan a booklet's length, check an essay against a page limit, or budget paper for a handout.
Enter the number of words, pick a font size, and choose single, 1.5, or double spacing. The tool divides by a realistic words-per-page figure and rounds up to whole pages.
Roughly how many words fit on a page
On standard A4/Letter with normal margins in a 12pt serif font, a single-spaced page holds around 500 words, 1.5 spacing around 375, and double spacing around 250. Smaller fonts fit more; larger fonts fit fewer. These are the figures the estimator uses, scaled by your chosen size.
- 12pt single — about 500 words/page.
- 12pt double — about 250 words/page.
- 11pt single — about 550 words/page.
- 10pt single — about 600 words/page.
How to use it
- Enter the total word count.
- Choose the font size (10, 11, or 12pt).
- Choose line spacing (single, 1.5, or double).
- Read the estimated page count, then round up for headings, images, and white space.
Notes and limitations
- This estimates body text only. Headings, lists, images, tables, and white space all push the real page count higher.
- Margins, font choice, and paragraph spacing change words-per-page; treat the result as a planning estimate, not an exact figure.
- For a booklet, remember the final page count needs to round up to a multiple of four.
FAQs
Quick answers
How many pages is 1,000 words?
About 2 pages single-spaced or 4 pages double-spaced in a 12pt font with normal margins. Smaller fonts fit more words per page.
Does font size really change the page count?
Yes, significantly. Dropping from 12pt to 10pt fits roughly 20% more words per page, so the same document takes noticeably fewer pages.
Why is my real document longer than the estimate?
The estimate counts body text only. Headings, images, tables, lists, and spacing between paragraphs all add pages that a pure word count can't predict.
What spacing do schools usually require?
Many essays are double-spaced in 12pt, which fits about 250 words per page. Always check the specific assignment's formatting rules.
