What this tool does

The card guests actually look for. Wi-Fi in a box big enough to read, then heating, bins, keys and check-out.

The Wi-Fi gets a box, not a line

It is the first thing every guest looks for and the thing most often written too small to read. A password with mixed case and symbols needs room, so it gets a bordered box rather than a rule.

Bins are the second question

Which bin, which day. It is the request hosts answer most often by message, and it takes one line to remove.

Print it and frame it

A card that lives on the fridge or in a frame on the side is read. The same information in a welcome folder in a drawer is not, which is why this is one page rather than a booklet.

Writing it for a stranger

The test for every line is whether somebody who has never been in the building could act on it. "Bins out Tuesday" fails that test; "black bin to the kerb by the gate, Tuesday night, recycling alternate Tuesdays" passes it.

Heating is the block hosts under-write most. A guest who cannot work the thermostat will either be cold and say nothing or turn everything up and leave it running, and both of those cost you something.

Where it goes

On the fridge, in a frame on the side, or inside a kitchen cupboard door. Anywhere a guest will look in the first ten minutes. The one place it does not work is page four of a welcome folder.

FAQs

Quick answers

Is the house & wi-fi information card free?

Yes. Set the title, download the PDF and print as many copies as you like. No account and no sign-up.

Can I edit the section headings?

The heading at the top and the label in the corner are yours to change. The section headings are fixed, which is what keeps every copy of the sheet laid out the same way.

Will it fit on US Letter as well as A4?

Yes. Sections are measured against the paper you choose, so nothing runs off the bottom of the shorter sheet.

Can I print more than one copy at a time?

Yes — set the page count up to four and the PDF carries that many identical pages.
