What this tool does

Create foldable tent-style desk name plates from your class list. Each plate has a centre fold line and prints the name twice — upright and upside-down — so it reads correctly from both sides of the desk once folded. Choose how many plates per page and add cut marks for tidy trimming.

Foldable desk name tags in seconds

At the start of term, after a seating reshuffle, or for a cover lesson, knowing every pupil's name helps the day run smoothly. This generator turns a simple list of names into ready-to-fold tent name plates. Each plate is a single rectangle with a centre fold line; the name is printed twice so that when you fold the card into a triangular tent it reads the right way up from both the pupil's side and the teacher's side of the desk.

Type or paste your class list, choose how many plates fit on a page, and print. There is nothing to assemble beyond a fold and an optional snip along the cut marks.

How the tent fold works

Each rectangle is split across the middle by a dashed fold line. The lower half carries the name upright; the upper half carries the same name rotated 180 degrees. When you fold the card so the two printed halves face outward and stand it on the desk as a triangle, both faces show the name correctly oriented — one for the pupil, one for whoever is looking from the front of the room.

What you can customise

  • Class list — one name per line; print a whole class across as many pages as needed.
  • Plates per page — 1 to 8, so you can make large display plates or compact desk tags.
  • Cut marks — corner guides for neat trimming.
  • Write-in line — leave a blank line for pupils to add their own name or pronoun.
  • Fold label — a small 'fold' hint on the crease, or hide it for a cleaner look.

How to use it

  1. Type or paste your class names, one per line.
  2. Pick how many plates you want per page.
  3. Toggle cut marks, the fold label and the write-in line to taste.
  4. Preview the live PDF, then download or print on A4 or US Letter.
  5. Cut, fold along the dashed line, and stand each tent on a desk.

Classroom ideas

Use larger single-per-page plates for the first day so names are visible from across the room, then switch to compact four-up tags for everyday seating. Print blank plates with the write-in line for pupils to decorate, or run a set in your handwriting practice slot so children make their own. The plates also work for parents' evening, group tables, and reading-corner badges.

FAQs

Quick answers

Why is the name printed upside-down on the top half?

Once you fold the card into a tent, the upper half flips over to face the other direction. Printing it rotated 180 degrees means it reads the right way up from both sides of the desk after folding.

How many name tags can I print at once?

Type one name per line and the tool lays them out across as many pages as needed, using your chosen plates-per-page setting. Long class lists are handled automatically.

Do I need to cut the plates out?

Not necessarily — you can fold each plate as-is. If you prefer tidy edges, turn on cut marks and trim along the corner guides before folding.

Can pupils write their own names?

Yes. Turn on the write-in line and leave the name list blank, or add a single space per line, to print empty plates pupils can fill in and decorate themselves.
