What this tool does

This generator builds a deck of printable math fact flashcards with a number fact on the front and the answer on the back. The ready-made deck covers core multiplication facts, but you can swap in addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division facts for any range you are practising and download a print-ready PDF in seconds.
Each card shows one clear fact, like 6 + 7, 15 − 8, 7 × 8, or 56 ÷ 7, with the answer waiting on the reverse. Children flip to self-check, or a partner holds the card and reads the fact aloud. Choose 4, 6, or 8 cards per page and the engine adds as many pages as your deck needs.

Recall, not reading
A maths fact card is doing a different job from an alphabet card, and the difference decides how you use it. An alphabet card teaches a symbol a child does not yet know. A maths fact card rehearses something they can already work out, until they no longer have to work it out.
That target — retrieval without calculation — is what makes fluency practice worth doing. A child who computes 7×8 by counting up in eights gets the right answer and has spent their working memory doing it; a child who recalls 56 has that memory free for the actual problem. The cards are not teaching multiplication. They are converting something known into something automatic.
Which means speed matters in a way it never does for letter cards. If a child pauses for more than about three seconds, the fact is not yet fluent, and the card goes back in the pile rather than being worked out slowly.
The three-pile method
Working through a deck front to back rehearses the facts a child already knows as often as the ones they do not, which is most of the reason flashcards get a reputation for being ineffective.
Use three piles instead. Show a card: instant correct answer goes in the known pile; slow but correct goes in working; wrong or no answer goes in learning. Then go again through learning only, then working, and finish with a quick pass of a few from known so the session ends on success.
Five minutes a day of this beats twenty minutes once a week, and the learning pile shrinking is visible progress a child can see. Print two or three sets and keep the piles separate between sessions rather than reshuffling.
Which facts to put on the cards
The default deck is a mixed sample. In practice you want a deck per target, and typing your own pairs is the point of the tool.
- Number bonds to 10 and 20 — the foundation. 6+4, 7+3, 13+7. Everything later leans on these.
- One times table at a time — the 7s and 8s are where children stall, and a deck of twelve cards is less daunting than a deck of 144.
- Doubles and near doubles — 6+6, 6+7. A strategy deck rather than a recall deck.
- Division as the inverse — 56÷7 alongside 7×8, so the pair is learned together rather than as two unrelated facts.
Twelve to twenty cards is a working deck. A hundred cards is a box that never gets opened.
Printing and handling
Six cards per A4 sheet is the default and gives a card about the size of a playing card — big enough to read across a table, small enough for a child to hold a dozen.
Print double-sided so the answer is on the back of its own question. Run one test sheet first: printers differ on which edge they flip, and a deck printed on the wrong flip has every answer on the back of the wrong card, which is not obvious until you are using it. Check the test sheet by holding it to the light before you print thirty.
Card stock at 160gsm or laminating both matter more here than for most printables, because these cards are handled daily rather than filed. A laminated deck survives a school year; a paper one is dog-eared by October.
