What you can do with this generator

This tool builds worksheets that test number comparison skills. Each problem displays two numbers with an empty box in the middle where the student writes the correct symbol: greater than (>), less than (<), or equals (=). You choose how many digits the numbers have — from single-digit comparisons for beginners (0–9) through to six-digit numbers for upper-primary students (100,000–999,999). The generator fills a page with rows of these problems, then optionally adds a second page with the answer key. Teachers print the worksheet, hand it out, and students fill in the boxes.

How to use the tool

1. Pick the number of problems you want on the worksheet (default is 20).
2. Select the digit count: 1 for single-digit numbers, 2 for two-digit, and so on up to 6.
3. Decide whether to include equals cases — useful if you want students to recognise when numbers are identical.
4. Tick the answer-key box if you want a second page with solutions printed.

Imagine you're teaching three-digit place value to Year 3. You set the tool to 24 problems, 3 digits, with equals cases included and the answer key on. You get a worksheet with rows like 427 __ 518, 803 __ 803, and 692 __ 281. Students compare the hundreds first, then tens and units if needed, writing < for the first, = for the second, and > for the third. After 10 minutes you hand out the answer sheet or display it on the board, and students mark their own work. Next week you use the same seed value to print an identical worksheet for students who were absent, ensuring fair assessment.

How it works under the hood

The generator uses a seeded random-number algorithm (mulberry32) to produce pairs of integers within your chosen digit range. For each pair it calculates the correct comparison symbol. If you've enabled equals cases, roughly 15% of problems will have identical numbers; otherwise the engine ensures a and b differ. The layout engine arranges problems in three columns per page, calculates how many pages are needed, and stamps each page with a branded header, footer, and optional watermark. When you request an answer key, a second set of pages is appended with the symbols filled in.

Every PDF fits both A4 (210 × 297 mm) and US Letter (8.5 × 11 in) paper without clipping or wasted margins. The three-column layout adapts to either size, so you can print at school in the UK, at home in the US, or share the file internationally. No need to fiddle with printer settings or scale-to-fit options — just click print and go.

Notes and limitations

• The tool does not generate mixed operations (addition, subtraction) alongside comparisons — it focuses solely on the inequality symbols.
• Numbers are integers only; no decimals, fractions, or negative numbers.
• The digit count applies to both numbers in every problem on the sheet, so you can't mix single-digit and four-digit comparisons on one page.
• The layout is fixed at three columns; you can't switch to a vertical single-column format or change font sizes.
• The generator does not include word problems or real-world contexts — just numeric comparisons.
