What this tool does

Generate a printable maze shaped like a dinosaur. The corridors are carved only inside a hand-drawn dinosaur outline — head, neck, body, tail and legs — with the entrance on the head and the exit at the tip of the tail. Choose the cell scale, add Name and Date fields, and toggle an optional solution page.

A maze hiding inside a dinosaur

This generator builds a printable maze that follows the outline of a side-on dinosaur. Instead of a plain square grid, the corridors are carved only through the cells that fall inside the dinosaur silhouette, so the finished puzzle reads as a recognisable shape — long neck and head, rounded body, sweeping tail and two sturdy legs. The entrance sits on the head and the exit waits at the very tip of the tail, giving solvers a clear journey from nose to tail.

Every maze is freshly generated, so you can print a different dinosaur for each child or each lesson. Add the optional solution page for quick marking, or leave it off to keep the challenge a surprise.

How the shaped maze is built

The dinosaur is defined by a coarse boolean mask — a grid of in-shape and out-of-shape cells. A depth-first recursive-backtracker walks only through the in-shape cells, knocking down walls as it visits each neighbour and backtracking when a cell has no unvisited neighbours left. The result is a single connected maze that fills the silhouette, with exactly one route winding from the head to the tail.

What you can customise

  • Cell scale — coarse cells for very young children, finer cells for a longer, trickier path.
  • Solution page — include a second page that traces the route from start to finish.
  • Name and Date fields — add a header line for classroom use.
  • Worksheet title — set your own heading or keep the default.
  • Paper size — print cleanly on A4 or US Letter.

Who it is for

Dinosaur fans of every age love a themed puzzle. Use coarse scales for ages four and up to build pencil control and focus, then increase the scale for older children who want a longer route to trace. Teachers can print a stack for a dinosaur topic week, a wet-play activity, or an early-finisher task, while parents can drop one into a party bag or a quiet-time pack.

How to use it

  1. Pick a cell scale to match the age group.
  2. Toggle the solution page and the Name and Date fields as needed.
  3. Preview the live PDF and press Generate New for a different dinosaur maze.
  4. Download or print — the branded, ready-to-use sheet prints on A4 or US Letter.

FAQs

Quick answers

Where do the maze entrance and exit go?

The entrance sits on the dinosaur's head at the top-left of the silhouette and the exit is at the tip of the tail on the right, so solvers travel the whole length of the creature.

Can I print the solution?

Yes. Toggle the solution option on and the PDF adds a second page with the correct route drawn through the dinosaur from start to finish.

How do I make it easier or harder?

Lower the cell scale for a coarse, short maze that suits younger children, or raise it for finer cells and a longer, more winding route.

Is every dinosaur maze different?

Yes. Each generation carves a fresh layout inside the same dinosaur outline, so you can print a unique maze for every child. Press Generate New to reshuffle the preview.
